The Award is presented to someone who is making a large impact in the music industry with their original songs. John Mayer won the award in 2006.
When presenting Tay with the award, John told the crowd, ”You could put her in a time machine in any era and she would have a hit record. Don’t confuse everybody loving one thing as hype. Sometimes that’s everyone agreeing that it’s fabulous.”
